How do you sew a Detached Chain Stitch?
Detached Chain Stitch is one of the most versatile stitches in my opinion. It can be used for so many different things from highly detailed work to a background around text.
It’s most common uses are for leaves and petals, they can be layered up or left as a single stitch to create many different effects.
Step 1.
To start a detached chain stitch, pull the needle and thread up through the fabric, then insert the needle back into the same place.
Step 2
Pulling the thread through leaving a long loop. Bring the needle back up the fabric a short distance away from the first stitch
Step 3
Create a tiny stitch to hold the loop in place.
Step 4
You have just made your first detached chain stitch. Now you can carry on or tie the stitch off depending on your project.
